Roaches Control

Many houses have problems with cockroaches. And many people with asthma are allergic to "roach dust." Roach dust is made up of roach body parts and droppings. Roach dust is a very strong asthma "trigger." Triggers cause asthma attacks.

For years, cockroaches have defeated our best efforts to get rid of them. We sprayed and sprayed, but they always came back. Now we understand there are better methods and products that really work.

The new products are also safer than the roach bug sprays that have been commonly used. The new roach control method is called "integrated pest management" (IPM). Pest control companies, landlords, homeowners and tenants can use IPM.

The roach dust is still around even after you get rid of the roaches. And the dust can trigger asthma. A thorough cleaning is important to get rid of all the roach dust.

Cockroaches hide in dark, sheltered places during the day and come out to feed at night. They may be found around the kitchen sink or drain board, in cracks around or underneath cupboards and cabinets or inside them (especially in the upper corners), behind drawers, around pipes or conduits (where they pass along the wall or go through it), behind windows or door frames, behind loose baseboards or molding strips, on the underside of tables and chairs, in the bathroom, and in radio and TV cabinets.

Cockroaches Types

The German cockroach is usually found in the kitchen and bathroom, although it may be found all over the house. The other kinds of cockroaches prefer damp, warm places and usually develop in garages, sewers, attics, storerooms and similar locations. They then enter the home from outside breeding sites.

The American cockroach is one of the hardest cockroach type to control. Unlike most of the other roach types, this one can fly and is also attracted to light.

Control Methods

Roach control requires using the right professional products. Using roach control baits is generally the preferred method of treatment, especially for indoor control. However, a combination of roach control products including spraying insecticides around the exterior of the home will ensure that roaches don't get in.

Two kinds of baits are commonly used: Bait paste and gels are thick materials that do not evaporate, and so do not get into the air. They come in a syringe applicators that allow placement of tiny amounts. Bait stations are bait containers that the roaches find and eat from.

Problems Associated with Cockroaches

Cockroaches are the most common insect pests infesting homes, schools, restaurants, hospitals, warehouses, offices, and virtually in any structure that has food preparation or storage areas. They contaminate food and eating utensils, destroy fabric and paper products, and impart stains and unpleasant odors to surfaces they contact. Cockroaches are repulsive and objectionable to most people simply by their presence. They are also capable of mechanically transmitting disease organisms such as the bacteria which cause food poisoning. Recently, cockroaches have been found to be an important source of allergy in people, second only to house dust. Cockroaches can cause childhood asthma.

Ermones Pest Management solution, combines preventive techniques, non-chemical pest control methods, and the use of pesticides with preference for products that are least harmful to human health and the environment. Pesticides are not the total elimination solution but an alternate approach to traditional pest control measures. Complete reliance, on pesticides alone for pest control allows certain pests to develop resistance, creates potential human exposure to harmful chemicals, produces unsound environmental contamination, and creates a threat to nontarget species and pesticide waste. Ermones PM consists of routine inspection and monitoring with treatment only when pests are actually present, thus reducing traditional, routine pesticide application treatment (calendar date sprays) whether pests were present or not.
