Wood Destroying Insects Control @ Ermones®

Buying a new house or Restoring your Old House at the Village ?
Have you thought about Woodworm? . . . You should!

If the structure of your facilities contains any wood, there is always the danger of infestation by insects that live on wood, such as termites, woodworm , Powder Post beetles, carpenter ants, or carpenter bees. The newer the wood the more attractive it is.

Woodworm is not a worm but actually refers to all wood-boring beetles.

Most people fear that termites will infest their home, but they are not the only pests threatening the timber in you house. Woodworm can also cause as much damage and chances are that homeowners will only find out only after the damage is done.

How Do I Know If My property is affected

Your woodwork may be harboring woodworm without you knowing it. Wood can be infected with eggs or larvae without being noticeable, and you may not discover a woodworm infestation for several years. It's a common misconception that woodworm only affects old properties, in fact it can cause damage to newly constructed buildings. Unfortunately for the home-owner, the life cycle of the wood boring beetle is normally nearly over before you are aware of a problem.

How Do They Enter The Structure

They are usually introduced into the house in second-hand furniture, they can fly in through windows from nearby dead branches of trees or you carry them inside your house through fire wood. They may attack floorboards, joinery and, more seriously, structural timbers.

Signs of woodworm infestations include:

  •  Small round holes in your woodwork, similar to the holes in a dart board.
  •  Fine, powdery dust around these holes (this is known as frass).
  •  Crumbly edges to boards and joists.
  •  Adult beetles emerging from the holes or present around the house.

how much damage can woodworm cause?

The amount of damage caused by woodworm will depend on the species of beetle and the type of wood.
